Seagull 1963 – a tribute to a historical, classic watch
For over 50 years, Seagull has created its famous pilot’s watch as can be read in the story. The chronograph from 1963 convinced every critic with its reliability and the robust design. The new edition of this watch is not inferior to the legendary original issued watch. The chronograph is still powered by the original Seagull ST19 movement. This hand-wound movement comes with a 41-hour power reserve if the chronometer isn’t running continuously. In addition to the classic model of the Seagull 1963 with a cream dial, 38 mm diameter and acrylic glass. We now also offer many other models as can be seen in our store. Among those models, we offer larger versions like the 40 mm and with sapphire crystal instead of the acrylic that’s used in the original. Apart from the Classic model / 38mm / acrylic crystal, the chronographs have the Seagull ST19 movement with gooseneck adjustment.

The case
The stainless steel Seagull 1963 is available in different sizes: 38mm, 40mm and 42mm. Its length is 14mm. The top finish is polished and gives the watch a classic finish. Despite its vintage appearance it’ll therefore retain the looks/quality for longer. The bezel is well designed with a small rounding, thus providing the best viewing possibly from different angles.
This classic model of the watch (Seagull 1963, 38mm) comes with domed acrylic glass that matches the original Seagull 1963 the best. Other models (Seagull 1963,38mm & Seagull 1963, 40mm) have a more modern and higher scratch resistant sapphire crystal. The curvature of this sapphire glass is minimal, which is in line with the rest of the modern look.
All models of the 1963 Seagull watch have a see-through sapphire crystal case back, this way you can view the beautiful ST19 movement inside. This Seagull 1963 watches are ATM 3 water resistant, this means it’s rain resistant but shouldn’t be worn while swimming, showering… The crown shows a bright star with a matte border and thus continues the theme of the Seagull and it’s long, historic history from within China.
Dial
The Seagull 1963 dials come in several variations. They all share a satin finish to the indices and numerals. The watch hands and their colour, depends on the model and issue. The classic 1963 model has a beige dial with blue hands and a red stop-seconds hand. The numbers and indices were coloured in gold. Inside you can view the red star at 12 o’clock, pointing to the communist era the watch was designed in and continues to be used as a sign/tribute to the original watch. The inscription at six o’clock reads “中國电视” “Zhongguo zhizao”, which means “Made in China”.
In the heart of the Seagull 1963 beat the first movement of the Seagull ST1901.
The Red Star Seagull 1963 is powered by the famous hand-wound movement ST19 or ST1901. The 38mm and 40mm chronographs use the same original Tianjin Seagull movement. More about this movement can be found in our blog.
